Simultaneous interpreting & consecutive interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting, also known as conference interpreting, converts oral communication from one language into another in real time. This permits presentations and discussions to proceed with virtually no time lag. Ideally, it is as if the proceedings were being conducted in a participant's native language. To accomplish this requires professional simultaneous interpreters who have been trained not only in the techiques of their craft, but also have familiarity with the sophisticated wired and/or wireless audio equipment that are the tools of their trade.

All of the simultaneous interpreters who work with AudioLink have received extensive training and senior interpreters have had years of successful experience in the field. Senior AudioLink interpreters have worked on demanding assignments such as high profile political events (including live televised broadcasts of the U.S. Presidential debates) and cutting edge discussions of technical breakthroughs.

Whether you're planning a month long, multi-language conference or a small guided tour, AudioLink offers a wide variety of platforms and personnel to meet your needs.

simultaneous interpreting equipment

AudioLink offers a variety of equipment options for a wide range of budgets and applications. Alone, or with existing sound systems, the equipment provided by AudioLink can be used to broadcast simultaneous language interpretation in business and governmental meetings, international conferences, multilingual workshops and classroom environments.

Professional engineers will set-up and maintain sophisticated audio systems at your site and remain on site to work with you, ensuring that you receive the best performance possible. For large groups, our soundproof booths (pictured at the right) and individual headsets provide the perfect non-intrusive vehicle for simultaneous interpreting. AudioLink can also assist you with voting systems, audio-visual aides and recording systems. For small group settings or for mobile tours, AudioLink offers portable equipment priced to meet a more modest budget.

Engineers and Interpreters Working Together

A typical configuration for a plenary or general conference session includes at least two simultaneous interpreters, an interpreter's control unit, one transmitter per language pair, and one receiver-headphone set per person. An ideal system would incude a sound-proof booth, two transmitters per language pair, and multi-channel receivers. Workshops or breakout sessions usually involve less equipment, but place further demands on the engineers to breakdown and set-up the equipment in different locations and configurations.

Both wired and wireless systems are available. The latter includes both FM and infrared options which can be adapted for virtually any size rooom and even to outdoor environments. Anywhere, anytime, AudioLink is the reliable source for all your interpreting needs.

consecutive interpreting

Consecutive interpreting describes a situation where the participants and the interpreter speak one after the other. This alternating between participant and interpreter takes the following form: Participant speaks in language ONE and, when finished, the interpreter speaks in language TWO. The burden rests squarely on the interpreter to accurately and quickly convey the content of what is spoken from one language to the other.

Consecutive interpreting is used in many environments including courtrooms, face-to-face business negotiations, and guided tours.
