AudioLink's Review of Overhead Projectors
Buhl vs. 3M
We just finished a series of tests comparing two well known purveyors of tried and true AV technology: Buhl overhead projectors and 3M overhead projectors.
As an industry pioneer, 3M has been responsible for many of the past advances in AV projector technology. In recent years, Buhl has become a major innovator with features like 360 degree rotating heads, double fresnel lenses, rack & pinion focusing, ambidextrous operation, auto lamp changing, and Hi-Lo switching.
Read all about it in our posted article.

To Rent or Not To Rent...
This month I wanted to highlight some rental options for conference microphones and related equipment that you might want to consider for your next event.
Delegate microphones promote interactive discussions among conference attendees while allowing the chair to control the dialogue.
Delegate microphone systems come in a variety of configurations with both digital and traditional interfaces. These systems are available for purchase, but you can also opt to rent the items with the added peace of mind of having professional audio technicians install and monitor the equipment.
You choose what is best for you.
Our delegate mics feature:
- elegant, state of the art design
- excellent sound quality
- built-in loud speakers
- push-to-talk controls on each mic
- microphone on light indicator
- advanced software control
The basic system - for conferences, boardrooms, government offices, committee rooms, press centers and courtrooms, drives up to 100 units in two chains. Up to 1000 microphones can be connected together by using up to 10 central chairman control units.
Automatic operation with “push to talk/request” button (on/off) and overriding chairman controls facilitates orderly meetings.
Some of the Enhanced options available include an LCD display which provides information about the basic operating modes “AUTO” or “Manual”. On the display you can see volume settings and system status or easily do an automatic performance test.
From one to six delegates may be set up for simultaneous activation. The central processing or chairman control unit includes connectors for linking to external equipment such as interpretation systems, digital/analog recorders or PA systems. We also rent these peripherals so if you need to ensure interactive efficiency please ask about a complete system to cover all your needs.
Contact us for a Free Consultation and rental pricing.
We would love to add you to our long list of satisfied patrons. Let AudioLink Services take the worry out of your next A/V event. Not to mention a significant savings over purchase.

Introducing Hamilton Electronics
We are proud to add Hamilton Electronics to our extensive line of School & Classroom A/V.
Hamilton Electronics is a U.S. based manufacturer of high quality, easy-to-use portable public address systems; podiums and lecterns with integrated microphone systems; digital duplication systems; presentation furniture; megaphones and a variety of essential classroom AV equipment.
Founded in 1933, Hamilton Electronics was a division of Weldotron (a shrink wrap products pioneer!) until a group of employees and investors (headed by current company President Sheldon Goldstein) organized a buy out. Under Mr. Goldstein's guidance Hamilton and its sister companies have seen revenues grow from $3 million to $30 million in just 10 years.
Hamilton designs A/V equipment with both educators and students in mind. Hamilton products are easy to use, intuitive and built to last. Recent additions include childhood digital photography products, which enhance and enliven the classroom learning experience, compact and portable PA systems with built-in wireless microphones and a unique CD/DVD boombox.
We recently spoke with Sheldon Goldstein about his company's philosophy and what follows are a few excerpted comments.
"We try to keep consumer costs down across the board. For example, everybody realizes you don't need to spend $150 to hook up your VCR to a DVD recorder, and we take that idea seriously in all our product lines. And the internet represents a means of keeping those costs down as well. We see the future of the internet because we've learned how immediate the response is - the very next day you can make adjustments. That's a huge improvement over past methods..."
We couldn't agree more.
Look over this list and you'll get an idea of why we are so excited by this new opportunity at AudioLink:
- The Hamilton Boombox DVD/TV package includes a 7 inch LCD color monitor with remote control along and a CD/DVD player boom box.
- The new Hamilton Learning Center includes a CD/Cassette/AM-FM boom box, a six-station stereo jack box with individual volume controls, six HA-5 headphones and a foam padded carry box with a free combination lock included for personalized privacy.
- The Hamilton EZ CRATE is a large capacity utility cart which conveniently folds flat for easy storage. It's made of lightweight durable plastic, has two non marring casters, and an extendable easy grip aluminum handle. Just right for the presentation pro on the go!
- To celebrate the launch of this line we are offering great specials and invite you to call for volume discounts. And please remember that AudioLink now accepts Purchase Orders from qualified schools and educational institutions.

Do you have pro-audio questions? AudioMan's got answers!
Simone B. asks:
I have been asked to research megaphones to purchase for our school district and I see alot about SPL ratings. Can you explain what SPL means? Thanks!
Hi Simone,
SPL* refers to Sound Pressure Level. Rated in decibels (db) the SPL is an expression of loudness or volume on an upwardly exponential, sliding scale. Each 10db increase in SPL represents a doubling in volume. For example, live orchestral music reaches brief peaks in the 105db range while a live rock concert easily reaches, sustains or exceeds 120db. (That's why there are more hard of hearing rock guitarists than classical violinists!).
As far as megaphones go, the SPL rating refers to the effective volume and range of a particular model. Therefore, the higher the SPL rating, the louder the volume and consequently the greater the coverage area.
AudioLink offers quite a diverse list of megaphones - and don't forget - we take Purchase Orders!
Hope this helps!

My Arabian Club is looking for a PA system we can use for outside activities in riding rings and arenas, etc. We need a clip-on mike and speakers that can be heard 300 feet away. I don't know enough about this area to pick out something from your on-line list. Can you help?
Hello Lorry,
For some reason we get a lot of requests from riding clubs and ranches, and they've all been quite satisfied with the same solution: The Fender Passport Deluxe 250 PA system bundled with the Fender Passport Executive microphone kit (AudioLink Special Package #12008).
The 250 watt speakers can be heard clearly at that distance and the proprietary Executive microphone system comes with both a lavaliere and a headband mic, plugs into a slot in the rear of the mixer and stows away in a handy compartment. In addition, the whole system packs up into a suitcase arrangement for easy transport and storage.
And when you purchase them together they come at a special discounted price!
As you mentioned, there is an on-line list of PA systems for you to review (organized according to audience size and price range) so feel free to browse around - or give us a call at 1 800 516 6955 and we'll be happy to discuss your needs in greater detail.
Happy Trails!
Keep those calls, cards and letters coming. Maybe we'll feature your question in an upcoming issue!
