DJ-Man scratches the surface on the hottest CD Decks
Gemini, Denon, Pioneer, Numark, Stanton & Technics all have new CD decks for the digital DJ. In fact, the advent of professional CD decks is revolutionizing DJing - as digital DJing comes of age.
Within the past five years, there has been stiff competition to create a CD deck that not only mimics the vinyl decks but also surpasses them. Many brands - Numark, Stanton, Technics, Pioneer, Denon and Gemini - have tried to keep up with the times and there have been several attempts to enable scratching up of CDs via sliders, pads, sticks and jog wheels.
Finally, the day of the digital DJ has arrived.
The demise of vinyl is not going to happen any time soon, but it's time to become more familiar with digital CD decks as alternatives to analog.
Read all about it in DJ-Man's latest product review of CD decks.
P.S.: The latest sign of change is the new iKEY analog to digital converter which can help DJ's preserve their extensive vinyl libraries.

To Rent or Not To Rent PA Systems...
This month I wanted to highlight some rental options for PA systems you might want to consider for your next event.
There are many options to choose from when selecting a PA system and Audiolink can assist you in your choice of the appropriate PA system rental by gauging the size of your audience and the location of your venue.
Our portable PA systems feature:
- elegant, state of the art design
- excellent sound quality
- choice of wired or wireless microphones
- optional stands and battery packs
- heavy-duty carrying and shipping cases
When should you rent a PA system rather than buy a PA system?
If you are planning a smaller event, or you intend to hold frequent larger meetings, you may want to consider purchasing a PA system. In the long run you save and you'll be ready in advance.
However, if you are planning a single annual event which requires a powerful PA system, such as a conference or sporting event, the type of PA system that will do the job can be costly - not to mention problems of storage and maintenance. With our reasonable daily rental rates the choice becomes clear. It's simple economics.
What other advantages are there to renting a PA system?
Rental advantages :
- choose between wired & wireless microphones
- choose a wired or wireless PA system to fit your needs
- save on storage costs
- save on maintenance
- (optional) trained engineers available to monitor your event anywhere in the US or Canada.
We can also recommend PA system accessories that would be most suitable for your PA system setup, particularly wired and wireless microphones, speaker stands, carrying cases and battery powered options.
You choose what is best for you (with our advice if you like at no extra charge).

Hofner Guitars Now on Sale
We are proud to add Hofner Guitars to our extensive line of Guitars & Guitar Gear.
If you were to ask a musician in the 60’s what they predicted music would be like in the year 2006, they probably would have guessed some sci-fi high tech electronic systems would be the instruments of choice.
Fast forward to 2006 and the answer is something quite different - vintage is in.
Musicians now prefer the “analog” sound of 2 inch tape, engineers are buying back old “tube” equipment to achieve “warmness” in their recordings, and companies are re-issuing vintage preamps, compressors and outboard gear. Bringing back that 60’s and 70’s “vintage” sound is the newest trend, in terms of recording, playing style and instruments.
The visionary Walter Hofner is rightfully front and center with ideas that seem as revolutionary today as they were in 1956! His idea for an amplified semi-acoustic bass brought popular music into the electronic age and it is doing so again.
Many players admire Hofner's Violin Bass because of its historical significance and its warm, woody, amplified tone that sounds like a double bass. The Hofner Violin Bass is a unique instrument which stands out from other electric basses both for its smooth, sweet sound and its ease of play.
Here at Audiolink, we now offer Hofner Vintage bass guitars as well as newer, less expensive reproductions!
Hofner's HBB Beatle Bass guitar is a replica of Paul McCartney's 1962 Violin Bass at an astonishing, affordable price! These basses have the "strip" machine heads, slot-head screws on the hardware, the two-piece neck, and a unique sound that definitely defines “vintage”.
Note: If you are ordering the Hofner H500, allow ten to twelve weeks for delivery; these are customized instruments, hand-made to specification, the same way they were made when Paul McCartney ordered his.

Do you have pro-audio questions? AudioMan's got answers!
George C. asks:
I am interested in an overhead projector, but it must be able to show hard copy photos as well as transparencies. Can you help? Thanks!
Hi George,
In our last edition of the newsletter, we offered an article on various overhead projectors and their advantages.
Based on our research and what you need, I recommend the Buhl opaque* projector which can display 3D objects, like book covers and photos, as well as photographs and transparencies.
Hope this helps!

Bill W. sent in this request:
Do you have or can you get the new Fender Passport Deluxe PD-500? If so, I'd like a price quote please.
Hi Bill,
The new Fender Passport Deluxe PD-500 was one of the big stars at this year's NAMM show, and will be available in late March or early April.
As a leading dealer for Fender I am confident that we will have this PA in stock before most others.
I have sent you a price quote separately, and although it's on back order right now, I can still take your order and reserve you one (or two or three or more). Be the first on your block...
Sunna G. wants to know:
Does the Fleco DVD-20K karaoke machine have variable speed for a CD? And if so, does the pitch change so it doesn't sound like a chipmunk? Thank you.
Hello Sunna,
The Fleco DVD-20K karaoke machine does have pitch control which is also called direct key pushbutton control. Rather than a knob, there is a keypad that will alter the pitch up or down by one full octave. So even the worst singing chipmunk can sound like a baritone with the touch of a button! (No offense Alvin...ALVIN!!!)
Enjoy your sing alongs!
Keep those calls, cards and letters coming. Maybe we'll feature your question in an upcoming issue!
